Thanks to Bill Gassett, who consults on Hopkinton MA real estate, I found some good ideas for increasing your exposure in your local market and getting quality incoming links to your blog.
Check out the site www.YourStreet.com. Once you join, you will be able to: “post articles, voice your opinion, join a discussion forum, and display your user profile” according to the website.
Bill has found the site helpful because he can send his blog posts to YourStreet and they are posted on the the site’s community page for his market area. I’m not sure how much juice the incoming links have because there are so many pages on the site, but I think it’s a great opportunity to check out.
YourStreet will also syndicate your blog if they think the content is appropriate. That will eliminate the need to manually add the post to the site. Just use one of the feedback forms to request syndiating your blog.
The other site Bill mentioned is www.Topix.com. Bill says that articles are cached pretty quickly on this site by Google, and Yahoo is showing some of Bill’s articles on Topix as incoming links.

Hi Kathleen,
Thanks for the mention:) Of the two sites I think the Topix site with do a little bit better for SEO purposes and certainly for traffic. Looking at my tracking info I am going to say there are about 5 visitors a dayy and growing from the Topix site. Yourstreet I just started using but have seen a few visitors.
Bill - always glad to give credit when it’s deserved! Thanks for the additional information. Both those sites look like they could grow over time. Now would be a good time to get in on the game.
Thank you Kathleen for the tips, I will make sure to submit to both sites. By the way, is your blog a do follow?
Eva,
Welcome! And, thanks for participating. This blog is a do follow for the URL you can enter in the associated field.
Links in the body of messages are no follow to avoid people packing comments with links.
Kathleen
Thanks for your prompt answer. As far as submitting to various site to improve page rank. Here’s two scenarios:
1. You pick 3-5 sites and you blog 2-3 times a week to them (or submit comments).
2. You know of a whole bunch of sites, like 10-12 and you blog or comment 2-3 times a week to 3-5 of them.
What is the better alternative for page rank? My guess is one. What’s yours?
Eva,
I think what you’re basically saying is that both scenarios end up with 2-3 entries at 3-5 sites. I’m afraid that figuring out the most effective approach isn’t an easy thing. I think it will depend on which sites you’re targeting, for one thing. Links from the Topix site, for example, are showing up in Yahoo. That’s good.
If you pick sites that are good authority sites, you should be helping your SEO. You might also want to create a blog on your own site, or on an authority site like ActiveRain and include links back to your own site with good anchor text.
Kathleen - I find that publishing articles on the American Chronicle gets loads of articles out. Many populate over to various Topix sites.
Another great tip, Sam!
