Grand Opening – New Online Real Estate Resource

Posted on Jan 15 2008 | By · Comments (8)

If the founders are on schedule, you should be able to see the newest online resource for real estate starting today.  According to an article by RISMedia, January 15, 2008 marks the date when a new real estate “wiki” goes live.

According to the RISMedia article, founders of the new wiki have

“. . .produced more than 3,000 definitions and terms, almost 1,000 answers to home buying, selling and financing questions, hundreds and hundreds of industry used acronyms, bios of prominent real estate leaders, authors, more than 1,000 brokers and top producing agents, details of real estate associations, institutes, councils, designations, courses, blogs, social networks, publications…the list just goes on and on.”

The site is called www.RealEstateWiki.com.

The thing I found interesting about the RISMedia article, and the site itself, is that there is no indication of who pulled all this information together.  And, I wonder how this site will compare to the InmanWiki, or Zillow’s Real Estate Guide that is also set up as a wiki.

Other questions that come to mind:

  • Do sites like these provide a good hunting ground for agents to find information or to get ideas for their own blogs, websites and clients?
  • Are they good marketing tools for real estate professionals?
  • Will these sites have a positive or negative impact on the real estate industry?
  • Who decided who the top 1000 brokers and agents are?
  • Is there a danger that erroneous information will end up being taken as fact?

Check it out and let me know what you think!

Just visited http://www.realestatewiki.com. Congrats to the idea and execution. Loved all the information they have already gathered although I can see many holes and places too add more information. I recommend everyone participates and adds content and their own profiles. Its free and provides the opportunity for everyone to gain a link and customers to your website.

Richard,

Thanks for stopping by!

I agree – the site could be useful. I think the founders need to do some heavy promotion, though.

I added a profile in several categories, and I’m still the only entry in at least one of them that should be loaded with information.

It will be interesting to see how it evolves.

The site is clearly still in beta, but is a awesome site. For a website that just started they have done a fantastic jobwith lots of content. I suggest we all help spread the word about the real estate wiki. Not only is the concept sound but agents and brokers can get free exposure and add a valauble link back to their own site.

Susan,

Nice to hear from you. I agree it could be a good resource for consumers and professionals.

Maybe if everyone with a blog wrote a post about it…. ?

This great site starts off full of content and needs even more. Like wikipedia it will expand by input from the public, in particular ourselves in the real estate industry. Wiki input can be edited by anybody else to ensure neutral and objective submissions. So we can all help to make the info complete and correct. Let’s help create a factual online real estate encyclopedia for our own research benefit!
