Making the Most of Your Real Estate Blog

You can make the most of your real estate blog by 1) providing useful content for your visitors, 2) including the keyword phrases you are targeting, and 3) using your blog to link to your website.

Put Useful Information on Your Real Estate Blog

Real Estate Website ContentI’ve talked about ideas for topics you can write about before.  Another way to come up with great content is just to keep your “antenna” out as you go through your day.  If someone asks you an intelligent question, your response might be a great blog post.  If one client asked the question, odds are there are other folks who are confused about the same issue.

The other day, I was talking to one of my clients about the subject of blog post topics.  Our conversation reminded her of a telephone call she’d had that day with one of her clients. The couple had recently written a contract on a new home. They told her they were very excited because they’d just purchased new applicances for their new home – on credit.

Not a good move, as you know! Keep in mind that what is just common sense to you may be big news to your clients.  I’ve found that REALTORS® often underestimate how much more they know than the average home buyer or seller!  As you create more and more posts, you’ll probably find yourself thinking “I should write a post about this!” as you go through your normal activities.

Write Blog Posts that Include Your Keyword Phrases

If you are writing a blog post about that type of a topic, be sure you keep your keywords in mind. No one will ever do a search for something like: should I buy new appliances before my mortgage is approved.

So, write the blog post to include your keywords. Let’s say your keyword target is Atlanta Real Estate and Homes for Sale (not that I’d recommend that because it’s too competitive, but you get the idea).

The Title of your blog post could be: Atlanta Real Estate – Buying Tips (or, if you have a lot of these, call it Buying Tip #4). Or, something like Atlanta Real Estate – Protect Your Mortgage Loan.

In the post itself you could mention that you’d been working with a couple looking for Atlanta real estate. And, they were very excited when, after looking at several Atlanta homes for sale, they found the perfect home for them.  As you write the post, look for ways to include your keywords without sounding unnatural.

Include Links to Your Real Estate Website

Real Estate Website LinksIf you have a page on your site about Atlanta real estate (which you should if that’s one of your keyword phrases!), you could link the words “Atlanta real estate” to it. You could also link something like “Atlanta homes for sale” to your MLS search page.

You’re accomplishing a couple things with this approach.  First, you are establishing solid links to your main website with appropriate anchor text Anchor text is the term used to refer to the words that are actually used for the link to another page.  Search engines read anchor text to help them determine what your site is all about.  Your goal is to use your keywords as the anchor text when you link to a page on your website.

Second, you’re providing a path for your blog visitors to end up on your real estate website, which will help you increase traffic to your main site.  Once you’ve impressed your blog visitors with your knowledge, getting them to the main website is a great way to improve your site’s ability to generate leads.

Once you are finished with the post, you’ll have content that focuses on your keywords, links to pages on your main website with great anchor text, and really useful information for your visitors.

Can’t beat that!
