How to Monitor the Ranking of
Real Estate Websites

So, now you have a real estate website set up. To generate traffic, you may want to start out with a Pay Per Click campaign when your real estate website is new. You can learn more about Pay Per Click campaigns using Google Adwords, or Yahoo Search Marketing.

However, your long-term goal is to make sure that your website generates leads because it can be found on the Search Engine Result Pages (SERPS). How do you determine how well your website is doing? There are a number of tools on the Internet that will help you track the health of your real estate website. The tools described below are only some of those available!

A Handy Multi-Purpose Website Tracking Tool

Marketleap publishes a multi-purpose tool that analyzes three issues:

  • Search Engine Saturation - This indicates how many pages of your site are recognized by the search engines.
  • Link Popularity Check - This tool identifies how many links to your real estate website are recognized by the search engines.
  • Keyword Verification - This part of the tool lets you know if your site appears within the first three pages of the SERPs for selected keywords.

The great thing about the Marketleap tool is that it will show you a trend for both Search Engine Saturation and Link Popularity. If you use this tool regularly, you can see how your website’s position has changed over time.

Tracking Rankings in the SERPs

Once you have optimized your site for specific keyword phrases, it’s a good idea to track how well you are doing in the search engines for those keywords. Another great tool for tracking your ranking is from Mike’s Marketing Tools. Mike’s Search Engine Ranking Tool doesn’t rank by page; rather, it will tell you which result number your website holds. So, if your ranking on the Search Engine Ranking Tool is 12, you know your site appears on the second page because each page contains 10 listings.

GoogleRankings is available if you want even more detail about your website’s ranking. Using this tool, you can search up to the first 1000 sites (if you have the time) to determine where your website ranks for a specific keyword phrase.

Although this tool is called GoogleRankings, it searches MSN and Yahoo, also. In order to search Google, you will need a Goggle API Key. You don’t want to know the full functionality of the Google API Key. Trust me. But, it is easy to get one. Try this simple form

You should be aware that there are limits on how often you can use your API Key with a tool like GoogleRankings to search through Google. However, any real estate agent who has time to do more than 1,000 automated Google searches in a day should really find another line of work!
