How do you know if your SEO projects are working? If you’re doing your own SEO, how can you improve effectiveness and reduce time spent? Invest in the tools you need to monitor progress or do the entire task yourself!
What SEO Tools Do You Need? The answer to that question varies depending on how you are managing your SEO strategy. If you outsource the SEO process, it’s still a good idea to be able to track your progress. You should be getting updated information from your advisor, but the more SEO knowledge you have, the better you will be able to manage the process of driving traffic to your website.
If you are doing your own SEO, it is imperative that you spend your time wisely to get the most out of your efforts.
Which SEO Tools Should You Use? There are a ton of SEO software packages. I’ve used quite a few of them. The one that I’m using now is one that I’ve found to be the best fit for my needs, and given its flexibility, it may be a good fit for you, too. Choosing SEO software is another task where there are so many alternatives, it’s often easiest just to do nothing rather than take the time to evaluate everything!

Try the Software from the Leader! Right now, SEO PowerSuite is just about the standard for SEO software. Their client list is impressive, and includes Microsoft, 3M, Toshiba, Disney, GE, MasterCard, and a host of others. I like the software for a number of reasons.
- The PowerSuite has all the capabilities you need. You won’t need one thing to do keyword research and another to track your ranking in the search engines, for example.
- The software comes in modules. You have the flexibility to use some or all of the capabilities of the software:
- Rank Tracker, which keeps a history of where your site ranks for specified keyword phrases, and lets you do keyword research
- WebSite Auditor, which helps you to optimize your website and provides insight into what your highly ranked competition is doing to achieve high ranking.
- SEO SpyGlass, which specifically analyzes what your competition is doing in terms of incoming links, and lets you know how to set your strategy to rank better than your closest competitors.
- LinkAssistant, which lets you set up and monitor search engine friendly and quality link exchanges, if you decide to use that as part of your SEO strategy.
- PowerSuite offers affordably priced algorithm updates. Any SEO software that doesn’t offer regular updates isn’t worth anything. By the same token, if you purchase SEO software and don’t get the algorithm updates, the software still isn’t worth anything.
The search engines change pieces of their process regularly. Without the updates, you’ll be basing decisions on outdated and incorrect information. If you’re serious about doing your own SEO, the monthly fee for the entire PowerSuite is just part of the investment. If you’re just using one or two of the modules, the monthly fee is even more reasonable.
How Can You Get Started? My recommendation is that you start using the free version of the complete suite of products as a Free Trial (you will be taken directly to a software download). The free version doesn’t really allow you to use the software on a long-term basis. Many of the capabilities you’d need over the long-run, such as saving files, are disabled. But, you can evaluate each of the four modules.
You may find that you want all four modules and you’d choose to purchase the PowerSuite. You might also choose to purchase the Suite because it can be less expensive than purchasing a few modules separately. But, you can purchase just one or two modules, depending on your needs and budget. Get all the information you need at the PowerSuite website!
